We are proud to announce that our very own Keith Deaven has been appointed Board President of Uplifting Athletes. Uplifting Athletes is a non-profit organization that aligns college football and rare diseases in order to raise them as a national priority through outreach, research, education and advocacy. A rare disease is one that affects fewer than 200,000 Americans and consequently lacks financial incentive to make and market new treatments. However, over 7,000 rare diseases collectively affect more than 30 million Americans, making rare diseases a far-reaching issue. Mediabarn Earthquake Reenactment

Mediabarn’s Lab and office in Arlington, VA survived the earthquake with just a single sprinkler head baffle dropping to the floor.  However, being on the 12th floor here we did rock quite a bit.  So much that when Jason came out of the conference room he saw Larisa and Heather holding on to one of our beautiful concrete columns, having no other plan he also joined in. Below we captured a reenactment of that moment while it was still fresh in our minds.

#SXSW Wrapping Up

SXSW 2011 wraps up, as expected we had a great time hooking up with some of our vendors, partners and talent. We attended a wide array of discussions and panels ranging from design to leadership to games and entertainment. As in past years, most of the sessions were insightful and passionately presented. We are looking forward to incorporating some of the design methodologies being batted around at the conference. Our experience is that many of these “new” processes are just repackaged traditional approaches. However, we love that so many people are energized around making product development and design process streamlined … Continue reading

We here at Mediabarn are excited to announce that Heather Nam, our Director of Usability Research, has published an article in UPA’s User Experience Magazine. Communicating with Study Respondents,” focuses on how a usability script can be used as a key communication tool that guides both moderator and respondent through the conversation that takes place during a usability test. Included is a discussion of situations in which using scripted language isn’t feasible, along with the importance of maintaining a balance between being rigid and being flexible. UPA members … Continue reading
