…attending UXPA’s international conference, that is. It wasn’t too long ago when I was writing about how awesome UXPA 2014 in London was going to be…and it was. The presenters, the keynotes, the attendees, and the location were all amazing. This June, UXPA 2015 will be held in San Diego California (Loews Coronado Resort, to be specific) and I could not be more excited. The theme for the conference is “simplicity” and the location we chose is the perfect match for that. Ocean on one side, bay on the other, beautiful outdoor spaces that are great for networking. My co-chair this … Continue reading

GoodGovUX’s Kickoff Event

After co-sponsoring a successful kickoff event at the Artisphere, we are extremely proud to be involved with such a great organization, GoodGovUX. If you weren’t able to make the conference, here is a quick set of talking points that we found insightful: – The Mission of GoodGovUX: To drive the adoption of a common set of UX best practices within the government and government contracting communities. – The term “UX” is defined in many ways, but more commonly: “UX is not on the screen. UX is in the mind.” “It’s pervasive. It’s in everything we do, not just on computers and smartphones.” … Continue reading

GMU Takes a Tour of the ‘Barn

Last evening, we had the privilege of hosting the GMU Human Factors Students for some refreshments, a tour of our facility, and an engaging discussion about all things User Experience. It was a true pleasure for us to talk to the students about topics ranging from the usefulness of Google Glass, to sharing stories of our awkward college moments! Somehow we even found time to discuss user research methodologies, using discretion in social media when looking for a job, and the overall direction the UX field is taking. The clients we had in the office for a focus group surprised … Continue reading

Mediabarn has led the design, development, and collaboration of online educational products and websites since we opened our doors almost 10 years ago. So, naturally when Educational Media Creations Company (founders of the awesome children’s musical group, Silly Bus) decided it was time to bring their music and educational knowledge to the world of educational apps, it was a great fit. We were very excited to kick off a mobile project with Silly Bus! There was so much to consider, such as what age group to target and what games would be educationally compelling. In addition, we wanted to showcase the fun, educational … Continue reading

Chopped: Mediabarn Edition

Our second Annual Cook-Off competition was a success! In continuing this tradition, we decided to keep things the same but opted out of the chili theme that was done last year (heartburn purposes). This time around, the ingredients were chosen at random from 4 different categories: Protein, Starch, Vegetable, and Random. The chefs had to work their magic with an interesting mix of chicken, potatoes, eggplant and apples. The 4 ingredients could be used in one dish, or they could be split up into two separate dishes. Needless to say, the race was close between all 6 chefs (because everybody … Continue reading

Mediabarn is pleased to announce that our very own Heather Gay will be speaking at the UXPA DC Conference Redux! As our Director of Usability Research, she will be representing Mediabarn in a panel with other local UX’ers. The topic of the presentation is “Ignite – This is why my UX research method rocks!”  Heather will be defending the advantages of Focus Groups against her co-presenters who will cover methods such as structured testing, free-form testing, ethnography, and remote testing.  It’s sure to be a duel to the death (of a methodology); you won’t wanna miss it!  The battle starts … Continue reading

Mediabarn is proud to announce that we’ll be partnering with UXPA and hosting a Happy Hour and tour of our Usability Lab, Focus Group suite and Studio during this year’s UXPA International conference here in Washington, DC this July. While enjoying cocktails and light hors d’oeurvres, attendees can tour our Usability Lab and Studio and schmooze with fellow UXPA’ers.  Register soon because seats are limited and will only accommodate the first 40 attendees that register. Transportation for the tour will be provided from the event. We are excited to show off our space while meeting fellow UXPA conference attendees! For more information … Continue reading

Mediabarn’s 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off

Yesterday we had our first ever chili cook-off here at Mediabarn and it proved to be a great success! Steven, Keith, Katherine, Nanette, and Mauro all competed for the coveted title of 2012 Chili Cook-Off Champ. Fifty bowls of chili and a bottle of tums later, Steven was declared the winner for his “Roll-Tide Tailgating Chili” and awarded an elegant, yet understated trophy (see below). It was a close race and a lot of fun for the chefs and tasters alike. We look forward to making the chili cook-off a Mediabarn tradition! Take a peek at some pictures from the … Continue reading
